ViSE Presents Bjarne Stroustrup

by Anne Markis last modified Nov 19, 2009 08:52 PM

Bjarne Stroustrup designed and implemented C++ as well as wrote The C++ Programming Language, which is considered by many to be the definitive text of the language. Using C++, Stroustrup has pioneered the use of objected-oriented and generic programming techniques in application where efficiency is at a premium. Stroustrup now serves as the College of Engineering Chair in Computer Science Professor at Texas A&M University. Currently, Stroustrup has been working on a new book, Programming: Principles and Practice Using C++, due out this December. Additionally, he has also planning a new C++ standard currently unofficially named C++0x.

The Design of C++0x

C++0x is the name of the draft of a revised ISO C++ standard. The talk will include a discussion of the background of C++ and its aims, as well as guiding design principles going into the standards process. A case study will be visited in regards to concurrent support facilities. The focus of the talk is the design and future of the language from a historical perspective.
