SSE Membership Requirements and Benefits

The membership requirements and benefits of the SSE.

Hello everyone,

Due to generous donations given to the SSE by various companies along with a successful fund-raising program, we are now able to offer SSE members benefits for maintaining membership in good standing. This includes event subsidies so you don't have to pay full price as well as technological services offered through the new SSE server. For example, the cost of the laser tag event this month is $16.50 for 3 games for non-members, and $10 for 3 games for members. That's a 40% discount. We will be able to offer these discounts on many of our upcoming events, large and small.

That leads to an important question: what is an SSE member? You might think that attending the meetings every Friday, hanging out in the lab during the week, or being friends with the officers makes you a member. But in reality, the SSE has well-defined membership requirements that must be met. The requirements are really quite simple:

  1. You must officially belong to a committee within the SSE.
  2. You must attend and volunteer at at least one event each quarter (see the Presidential Policy for details).
  3. You must have an account on the SSE web site.

If you do not meet these requirements, you are not an official member and are not eligible to benefit from our technological services and event subsidies.

All of the services you enjoy from the SSE (free tutoring, the highly discounted candy and beverages, the only lab on the floor in which you can eat and drink, etc) are able to be provided to you because our members and officers volunteer their time and energy to make it happen. We really love having the large number of people in the lab every day like we do, but many of you have yet to give anything back to us, and we need your help to keep everything running as well as it has been. Below is a list of committees and the committee head that you can contact to sign up.

The official Presidential Policy for the 2008-09 school year, as well as the SSE Constitution is also posted on the SSE web site as well as stored in the lab filing cabinet.
